Warhammer 9th edition rules have dropped!
Completley out of no where games workshop has released the core rule books for warhammer 40k 9th edition. Lots of other reviewers have also recieved copies of the main indomitus box to unbox and review. A $200 dollars price tag (potentially £120) has been leaked as well as the main rule book which I am sure you can find with a bit of digging.
So what about the main rule book. It can be found on Warhammer Community here:
And I think it's pretty decent. I like that there is no 90 degree turning on flyers, monsters and vehicles shoot in combat now and the blast rule sounds interesting. Not so big of a fan of the new morale system and the combat attrition tests but I think I will lead it to testing. The full terrain rules are not in this document but from leaks they sound strange, but ok.
For anyone interested, here is a list of all the changes I could find as bullet points, but I suggest reading the rules for yourself because I may have missed something:
Command Phase, generate 1CP a turn if your army is battleforged
Engagement range (combat range) is 1" horizontally and 5" vertically
Unit coherency is 2" horizontal and 5" vertical. Units of 6+ models have to be in coherency with 2 models, not just 1
Dice quantity modifiers are divided, multiplied, added and then subtracted (in that order). And fractions are rounded up (after all modifiers, including 0.25)
Re-rolls count for the whole dice roll (2d6 charge or weapon shots etc are all re rolled), still only ever one re-roll of a roll.
Reinforcements have to be after all movement
If your transport is destroyed you cannot charge or heroic intervention in the same player turn.
Airfracts now have just minimum movemenet distances, they do not have to do the 90 degree bollocks
All moves can ignore terrain of an inch or less
A psyker has to use all powers before moving on to the next psyker, you cannot return to them to cast more
double 1 or 6 causes perils. resolve perils first and if you die then the power does not go off (even on double 6)
Big smite is cast on 11+ now, not 10+. And increase in warpcharge by 1 for each cast (does not affect big smite)
Same power can only be attempted by each player once per battle round
Hit rolls and wound rolls can only be modified positivley or negativley by one
Hit rolls and wound rolls of 6 or 1 always hit or miss respectivley
Vehicles and monsters can fire any weapons in melee during the shooting phase, but -1 to hit roll if weapon is heavy. Cannot shoot blast weapons in melee
Look out sir (character hiding) is now better IMO Cannot shoot at an enemy Character with 9 orless wounds while it is within 3" of a friendly unit (Monster, Vehicle or unit of 3+ models) unless itis the closest target.
Only infantry are affected by the heavy weapons rule
'Blast' Weapons get minimum 3 attacks if targeting a unit with 6-10 models and get max hits if targeting a unit with 11+
Resolve normal damage from an attack first, then mortal wounds.
Mortal wound still applied if normal damage saved.
Once all guns are declared to fire at a unit check all their ranges. All those guns in range can fire at that unit, even if the first weapons shots put kill enough people for the second weapon to be out of range/ out of line of sight.
Charge one unit at a time. Once all resolved, then do heroic intervention.
Heroic interventions can be made if within 5 berticle inches and 3 horizontal inches
Not hit modifiers to overwatch
Charged player gets first attack in the fight phase, but all charging units get to fight first.
(Heroic intervention does not count as charging)
A model can fight if it is within ½" of another model from their own unit that is within ½" of an enemy unit. (not 2" to base contact, basically means you can only fight at one rank now, no matter your base size)
Pile in 3", make attacks and then you may consolidate 3" but must always end closer to the closest enemy model
Take a moral check as normal but on any fail one guy is removed. Then take a 'combat attrition test for the unit. Roll 1d6 for each model and for each roll of a 1, 1 model is destroyed. If the unit is below half strength, subtract one from every test.
Unit coherency checks after morale like in AoS that causes you to destoy models not in coherency.
Objetive in range if within 3" horixontal and 5" vertical
Choose first or second turn (in given scenario)
Potentially Scenario specific warlord traits. Given one is 'Inspiring Leader (add 1 to LD in 6")
So yeah, lots of very good stuff in there and I can't wait to try them out.
